With the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) suggesting 89 cuts in the Shahid Kapoor-starrer movie Udta Punjab, based on drug abuse in Punjab, Amritsar-based Fateh Foundation has decided to legally challenge the decision. The NGO, which provides bus facility for ferrying drug addicts from Amarkot in Tarn Taran district to Amritsar for medical checkup and treatment from private neuropsychiatric, would also launch a drive to seek uncut screening of the movie.
Chairman of the foundation, Anoop Singh Bhullar, told TOI on Tuesday that he held a meeting with legal experts to contemplate the challenging the revising committee's decision in the court of law. "I am of view that there is pressure (to block it) from a strong political lobby whose electoral interests are at stake as the movie reveals the rampant abuse of 'chitta' in Punjab".
