ABOUT AMERICAN INDIA FOUNDATION TRUST
The American India Foundation Trust (AIFT) is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged, with a special focus on women, children, and youth. The Foundation does this through high-impact interventions in education, health, and livelihoods because poverty is multidimensional. Founded over two decades ago, in the aftermath of the devastating Gujarat earthquake, as a humanitarian initiative by the then Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji, and the US President, Mr. Bill Clinton, AIFT has impacted the lives of 18.88 million of India’s poor across 35 States and Union Territories of India.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Digital Equalizer (DE) envisions a world where all children from under-served communities, especially girls, are prepared for a career and life. The program is bridging India’s digital divide by providing and integrating technology into underperforming, under-resourced public schools, training teachers in techno- pedagogy and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) methodology, and transforming classrooms into collaborative and interactive places for students to learn while preparing them for success in the 21st-century global economy. Targeting students most at risk of dropping out of school (grades 6-10),
Digital Equalizer instills a love for learning in them.
Since its inception in 2004, the Program has empowered 8.14 million children with interactive STEM experiences, trained 240,302 teachers in STEM pedagogy, and transformed 46,385 schools across 35 states and union territories of the country.

In a country where extreme contrasts of wealth and poverty coexist in everyday life, we hear hopeful stories of India’s rise and rapid growth. Yet 800 million people – more than the entire population of Africa – live on less than two dollars per day in India.
Amid the tragic devastation caused by the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee recognized the need for a philanthropy platform that would connect the world’s two largest democracies and provide a trusted bridge for meaningful participation in India’s democratic and economic growth for both Americans and Indians. The American India Foundation has since built on this vision and created countless opportunities for India’s poor to live successful, productive lives while creating impactful change at an unprecedented scale, changing the lives of more than 8.4 million of India’s less fortunate.
