IHAT PURPOSE AND PRIORITIES

India Health Action Trust (IHAT) was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. IHAT is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in the areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use programme science to optimise and scale public health programmes while partnering with the governments and communities. 

ROLE PURPOSE

The Associate will provide vital assistance to the Public Health Specialist and other relevant team members in driving the coordination required for new programmes development, programmes management, monitoring, and strategic communication with internal and external stakeholders including donors and the government. The Associate will support in developing routine project updates including narrative reports and power point presentations by critically analyzing available data and information. S(he) will develop and manage key project timelines and ensure necessary follow-ups required for ensuring timely project deliverables. Key domain areas will include maternal new-born and child health, family planning, nutrition, health systems strengthening, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis with an underlying emphasis on a programme science approach and on gender equality. Specifically, the position is expected to support with the gender integration work of IHAT in new programmes and ongoing project initiatives. 

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE 

1. New Programmes Development

Support with the consolidation of data and literature review for new project concept notes and proposals.

Work with the Public Health Specialist and the concerned teams in the proposal development process (narrative and financial).

Support the Public Health Specialist in maintaining up to date archive of all literature, documents and reports. 

2. Program Management:

Review progress of integrated work plan and help ensure all partners are delivering on commitments and key milestones. Identify any critical activities which are off track, strategize course-correction and provide any required support.

Provide systematic and regular updates on achievements and progress made. Maintain regular touch with all consortium partners and ensure that the team is up-to-date on any key achievements/progress. This will also involve support in preparing for key strategic meetings, including document development, planning and coordination

Share regular updates regarding progress made against action items as decided in all internal and external meetings.

Develop and improve necessary analysis and presentation framework for all internal and external meetings, and maintain minutes of meetings

Maintain project schedules, manage and analyze progress using excel and other similar tools

Liaising with key external stakeholders including funders and internal UP-TSU teams, to support effective collaboration in the implementation and knowledge management of ongoing project activities.

Support with gender integration activities in the organization. 

3. Strategic Planning

Examine challenges and progress made on the key pivots as discussed in the Phase 3 proposal (equity, gender, transition and sustainability, incl. institutional capacity building)

Conduct field visits to gauge program implementation at the community level to ensure accurate dissemination of instructions and guidelines specified at the state level and identify gaps in the current implementation scheme, as required. 

4. Documentation and coordination

Support knowledge dissemination of work of the UP TSU with key stakeholders (government, funders, ecosystem partners) through a range of formats including in-person meetings, knowledge products, etc.

Support in planning and preparing for key funder meetings/visits.

Prepare concept notes, proposals and reports for consideration as required.

Prepare high-quality presentations for internal and external demonstrations as directed. Maintain a comprehensive repository of all relevant documents, reports, presentations and photographs. 

5. Resource mobilisation:

To support with identifying new funding opportunities

Designing programmes and writing proposals

Coordinate and liase with potential donors

To support with maintaining database of the new and existing grants 

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/ women’s studies, international development, public health or a related field is required.

Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience at the national and/or international level in working on gender mainstreaming and gender coordination.

Working with international organizations/ bilateral agencies such as WHO, UNICEF, USAID etc. in health programme will be considered as added advantage.

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES

Good experience working in the area of gender mainstreaming and gender coordination involving a wide range of stakeholders;

Good knowledge of mechanisms of gender integration in programme formulation, implementation and monitoring;

Good knowledge on implementation of gender analysis;

Good knowledge of Results Based Management and application of Programme Science Approach; monitoring, evaluation and research;

Ability to support internal and partners’ capacity development in the area of gender integration in their different sectors of intervention;

Ability to gather and interpret data, reach logical conclusions and present findings and recommendations;

Experience in working with women organizations/NGO;

Good knowledge of local project site context;

Ability to work with minimal supervision;

Ability to identify and analyze trends, opportunities and threats to fundraising.
