Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the under-mentioned vacancy situation for Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS): For Climate and Biodiversity based project.

It is an Indo-German initiative under the Living Lakes Biodiversity Conservation Programme in association with the Ramsar -Wetlands Division, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt of India.

Name of the post: Officer- Agriculture (One Post)

Project Location- Deepor Beel, Guwahati (Assam)

Qualification:

Masters degree in Agriculture Science or Equivalent (Horticulture etc)

At least two years’ experience of working on agriculture, forestry, water, horticulture, etc.

Capable to contribute in building capacities of the farmers in good agricultural practices and introduce climate -biodiversity friendly agri-designs from production to post-harvest mechanisms.

Able to analyze the problems faced by farmers and augment their livelihood by working closely with them in a multi-stakeholder milieu

Professional aptitude in English and proficiency in Assamese languages is mandatory.

Computer knowledge regarding MS-office and other data analysis packages.

Scope of Work:

Responsible for the overall planning, coordination, management & implementation of the agriculture component of the project

Ensure agriculture activities are implemented according to the annual work plan, and also flexible to shift priorities as per needs.

Design and develop agriculture models as per feasibility, demonstrate in field and analyze the data to produce result-based reports

Estimate input costs for agriculture activities and procurement.

Develop and strengthen Community based Cooperative/Society/Farmers Producer Company to take up the livelihood activities integrating with conservation and protection of the wetland as a sustainable practice.

Organize and facilitate trainings of farmers in climate friendly sustainable agriculture practices.

Capacity building of the Self-Help groups on various income generation activities.

Develop group dynamics of the SHGs and farmers groups and their empowerment.

Monitor and supervise the agriculture activities in the field. Provide handholding support to farmers.

Document key lessons and best practices, Case studies/Success stories and Prepare social media and website contents and ensure sharing with key stakeholders

Facilitate to develop market linkages of the farmers groups and Self Help groups. Facilitate to develop their linkages with the banks.

Facilitate PRAs and FGDs, and develop survey questionnaire, lead the surveys activity and analyze the data to produce result-based reports.

Monitor and supervise the Field Supervisors and their capacity building.

Prepare reports of workshops/trainings etc

Assist the Project Manager in preparing progress reports and other reporting requirements.

Support the project team to organize various events like workshops/seminars etc.

Perform any other duties assigned by the project manager and the Organization as per need. 

Skills Required:

Good communication, social, and interpersonal skills

Capacity to plan, prioritize and deliver tasks on time to meet goals

Maturity and confidence in dealing with high rank Govt. officials, Higher Academic institutions, National and international NGOs

Verbal and written communication skill In English. Skill in Assamese language is mandatory.

Knowledge about National and Global frameworks/guidelines on role of wetlands, Climate change and biodiversity.

Understand the Urban planning structure and processes and the role of concerned departments.

Able to work in multi-socio-cultural, socio-economical, and socio-political circumstances.

Possess leadership quality and professionally manage the project team with an inclusive approach.

Personal Traits: 

Able to take on new challenges to create transformations for societal well-being (economic, social and ecological)

Able to take on tasks in working with diverse stakeholders in collaboration networks

Able to be proactive, and handle uncertainties 

Benefits:

Gross Salary: Rs 25,000 - Rs 30,000, depending on qualification and experience.

Contract Period- Initially 1 year (Extendable on the basis of performance)
