POSITION TITLE: General Manager (India Programs)

REPORTING TO:  Managing Director

LOCATION:  Noida 

LENGTH OF ASSIGNMENT: Two years, and extendable subject to mutual agreement 

Position Description

PopulationCouncil Consulting (PCC), a global social enterprise entity, looking to recruit a key management position - General Manager for its India business. The General manager will play a crucial role in leading and advancing PC Consulting’s projects/initiatives, in line withits goals and values. The incumbent will manage client engagements, guide teams of staff/consultants, provide leadership to thematic and management of projects, and collaborate closely with the company’s senior team members and client stakeholders to deliver strategic insights and solutions.  

Key Responsibilities: 

The key responsibilities of the General Manager include the following.

1.Thought Leadership and Innovation

Contribute to PC Consulting’s vision and operations, and act as a role model in upholding the Company’s values and standards. 

Serve as a thought leader and present at the meetings/events organised by the national, state & local agencies, service providers, donors, advocacy partners and community organizations. 

Apply industry knowledge and expertise to diagnose complex challenges within the program and operations and provide direction with the implementation of innovative solutions. 

Use data-driven analysis and insights to develop actionable strategies that drive business growth and operational improvements.

Drive innovation in service offerings by leveraging digital tools, analytics, and emerging technologies. 

2.Client Relationship Management

Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key client executives.

Oversee client engagements, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and delivering impactful outcomes.

Identify and pursue engagements with clients, for new and continuing support to PCC.

3.Team Development and Talent Management

Guide high-performing senior team in developing actionable solutions. 

Mentor, coach and develop junior and mid-level consultants and analysts to ensure professional growth. 

Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation and learning.

Provide actionable guidance and feedback to team members to help them develop key consulting and leadership skills.

4.Business Development 

Play an active role in identifying and pursuing business opportunities with existing and new clients. 

Lead proposals and presentations for new engagements, demonstrating PCC’s value proposition.

Write blogs and publish articles to provide PCC’s thought leadership.

5.Internal Leadership and Management

Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of complex consulting engagements, ensuring the team stays aligned with client needs. 

Guide the project leadership to ensure the strategic, programmatic, technical, financial, and contractual integrity meets with the vision and values of the PCC.

Manage financial aspects of projects, including budgeting, forecasting and billing.

Provide support to operations, ensuring staffing levels are met to achieve PCC’s goals and growth.

Coordinate compliance with statutory requirements and audit recommendations to reduce legal risks for the organization and safeguard the organization’s investment. 

6.Institutional Advancement and Communications

Represent PCC in various forums, including being a valued member of technical, bilateral, and multilateral consultative groups.

Strengthen PCC’s visibility and strategic outreach to various stakeholders and clients, including members, donors, policymakers, and researchers.

Nurture and manage critical relationships with key Government officials, donor representatives, consortium partners, peer agency institutions, and community level organizations.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience/skills required:

An advanced degree (MBA, PhD, or equivalent) from a top-tier institution is required. 

Experience:

A relevant progressive leadership experience of 15+ years, of which at least five years should be in senior leadership roles in programs/ operations, in a growth-oriented consulting or relevant organisations. Experience of working in diverse sectors (Academics/Project Management/Operations Management) is essential.

Previous experience in managing teams, working with multiple clients, and delivering complex projects.

Demonstrated ability to engage with senior-level executives and lead strategic initiatives. 

Skills & Competencies:

Strong networking, relationship-building and representation skills with donors, government, partners, and key stakeholders. Ability to strengthen the greater visibility of the programs, both within the PCC’s network and in the external environment.

Displays gender sensitivity and promotes gender equality in all aspects of work. 

Excellent track record of building and nurturing relationships with organizations at multiple levels.

Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements relevant to the social sector.

Effective financial and risk management competencies to hedge risk to the organization.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to engage and motivate diverse stakeholders.

Proficiency in business development and an entrepreneurial mindset to identify and pursue new opportunities.

Ability and willingness to travel within the Country up to 40%.
