IHAT PURPOSE AND PRIORITIES
India Health Action Trust was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. The Trust is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use program science to optimise and scale public health programs while partnering with the governments and communities.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Team leader (TL), UHI will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for the urban health initiative, with a particular focus on developing the urban health initiative, supporting the conceptualization, ideation, and implementation of urban health programs in three cities, and also work closely with the PMU for the urban program of the National Health Mission in coordination, with the Government and other partners. The role involves working closely with the government, coordination with technical partners and stakeholders in the design, implementation, and evaluation of urban health innovations.
DIMENSIONS
Identify existing urban health models and support building a strong urban health model; identify best practices and innovations and support in documentation and replication of identified practices
Support setting up urban health initiative and engage in planning and facilitation of activities pertaining, coordinate with technical team to integrate their inputs, facilitating review of implementation in states and providing feedback on a periodic basis
Plan and provide focused technical/operational support, and coordinate the implementation of urban health program
Provide coordination and liaison support with various stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the initiative
Facilitate review of implementation in states and providing feedback on a periodic basis
Provide support for analysis data and design indicators, and establish systems for tracking progress and deliverables according to agreed work plans to ensure state and donor requirements are met
Monitor the program and hold review meetings to address systemic and technical barriers to improve urban healthcare delivery and thereby reduce health outcomes inequity
Explore and integrate digital health innovations, such as telemedicine, mobile health platforms, and electronic health records, to enhance the urban health model and improve service delivery.
Ensure that urban health programs integrate gender-sensitive approaches and address the needs of vulnerable populations, including migrants, slum dwellers etc.
Facilitate project activities, including training, on-site coaching, workshop planning, logistics planning, and management to ensure smooth project implementation
Develop and produce relevant project documents such as situation analysis reports, assessment reports, success stories, gap analysis plans, procurement plans, etc., as per program needs and local context
Identify funding opportunities and developing proposals to secure additional resources for expanding and sustaining urban health programs
Undertake supportive supervision and concurrent monitoring initiatives, including field monitoring on a periodic basis.
Support in research and documentation pertaining to Urban Health; Coordinate with Implementation Research for Health Systems Strengthening
Perform other activities as assigned by the supervisor to achieve organizational goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualification: Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/ women’s studies, international development, public health or a related field is required.
Preferred Qualification: PhD equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/ women’s studies, international development, public health or a related field is required.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of overall 12 years of experience in public health, with at least 3 years in urban health
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES
The candidate must possess a strong understanding of urban health systems and a good level of knowledge of urban health issues
Strong experience in and understanding of working with government at various levels
S/he should have excellent reporting and analysis abilities, the capacity to communicate with various players at different levels, and an ability to negotiate in a multicultural environment
S/He should be familiar with monitoring large programs with an excellent understanding of key monitoring indicators
S/He should be familiar with the National and State public health systems and functions
S/he shall have an understanding of public health issues in India and the role of various stakeholders
S/He will possess good teamwork abilities and the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team
Ability to work independently on complex projects and proactively manage projects with minimal supervision
Strong team player with proven experience working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
Excellent interpersonal abilities and effective communication skills in both English and Hindi
Proficient in written and oral communication, including presentation skills and the ability to write analytical reports
Desired skill: Familiarity or ability to communicate in any other Indian language
Proficiency in commonly used software packages such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Skilled in conducting desk research, literature reviews, and accessing relevant documents through internet research.
