Position: Fellowship Lead

Base Location: New Delhi

About Us:

Society for Labour and Development (SLD) is a labour rights and support organization based out of the National Capital Region. Established in 2006, SLD has a pan-India footprint and primarily addresses the rights and aspirations of workers with an emphasis on women workers. We extend unconditional support to especially those engaged in the numerous global supply chains. The thematic areas of Labour Education, Gender-Based Violence, Inter-state Migrant Workers' Rights, Global Production Network in the Garment, Leather and Seafood Processing Industries are where SLD lays complete focus with an aim to better the lives of millions.

About SLD Fellowship Programme

Functioning in Delhi NCR, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Veraval and North Bengal, the SLD Fellowship programme is a unique attempt to induct young professionals into the labour rights and support ecosystem of India. The program comprises of a pedagogical, action-research, campaign and intervention component and has been working with various thematic to improve the conditions of workers engaged in multiple supply chains of garments, textiles, leather, sea food processing and tea industries in India. It aims to contribute towards strengthening of the organized labour rights and support movement in India.

Over its course, the program has organized multiple lectures and sessions, developed campaigns to increase awareness of fundamental rights and entitlements, improved linkages with social security schemes and developed partnerships with key stakeholders across various geographies in India.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Plan, operationalize and monitor the program design in various geographies through the thematic in focus.

Undertake periodic program, administrative and financial review of the project design and implementation.

Supervise, organize, compile and process information from the ‘fields’ and maintain strong

reporting ethics and systems.

Coordinate with the other verticals of SLD to streamline fellowship and other operations.

Provide guidance to the fellowship team through periodic pedagogical tools and methods.

Supervise the programs of fellowship teams across various geographies, themes and sectors.

Develop strategic campaigns with the fellows for the social welfare of the workers in specific sectors and locations.

Plan, supervise, conduct strategic and relevant action-research projects.

Establish partnerships and collaborations with key stakeholders in the social development and labour rights and support ecosystem in India and abroad, in tandem with the organizational goals and requirements.

Ensure timely and quality delivery of project outcomes and deliverables. 

Qualifications and Core Competencies:

Postgraduate or higher degree in the fields of Public Policy, Law, Governance, Urban Studies, Developmental Studies, History, Sociology, Economics, etc.

Demonstrated interest and experience of working and understanding the complexities of the organized labour rights and support movement in India and abroad.

3-5 years of experience in programs implementation and management.

Experience in managing campaigns and easing access to entitlements of the vulnerable demographics is desirable.

Experience in designing and administering pedagogical components is desirable.

Type of Appointment:

Contractual appointment with fixed term of 12 months. Renewal thereafter on basis of performance and requirements of project/SLD.
