Project Background
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service provider in the field of international cooperation services for sustainable development and is an enterprise owned by the German Government. The Government of India and Germany are working in close cooperation for addressing the challenges of biodiversity conservation with its overarching goal of sustainable use of biological diversity to support livelihoods for future generations.
GIZ, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and the forest departments of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is implementing
a Technical Cooperation project ‘Strengthening Gender-responsive Forest Ecosystems Management and Agroforestry’. The project goal is to strengthen the gender-responsive and climate-resilient management of forest and agroforestry ecosystems.
The project interventions focus on three core areas:
Strengthen the institutional framework for gender-responsive forest and agroforestry management that promotes climate resilience.
Support equitable planning processes and the implementation of gender-responsive forest and agroforestry management that promotes climate resilience.
Support the implementation of gender-responsive or gender-transformative income-generating measures by forest and agroforestry ecosystem-dependent groups.
GIZ, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in India and Bangladesh and the forest department of West Bengal, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is implementing a regional Technical Cooperation project
‘Strengthening regional cooperation and financing for sustainable management of the Sundarbans and restoration of coastal ecosystems in the Bay of Bengal (SUNDAR-BAY)’. The project goal is to enhance the coordination for conservation and management of the Sundarbans ecosystem that supports livelihoods of local communities.
The project interventions focus on four core areas:
Support dialogues between India and Bangladesh for the coordination of management and conservation of the Sundarbans.
Strengthen the capacities of Forest Department officials and other relevant stakeholders in regards to sustainable and gender-responsive management.
Support the engagement of women and youth in biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of the Sundarbans.
Strengthen the capacities regarding financing instruments and risk transfer mechanisms for conservation of Sundarbans ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Support the implementation of the “Gender-responsive management of forest ecosystems and agroforestry systems (G-VAN)” and the “Strengthening regional cooperation and financing for sustainable management of the Sundarbans and restoration of coastal ecosystems in the Bay of Bengal (SUNDAR-BAY)” project through coordination of the project activities with project partners.
Gender focal point for the projects (GVAN and SUNDAR-BAY) to contribute and exchange with other Gender-related projects of GIZ India for synergies.
Responsible as technical lead on Gender and advice on application of feminist objectives for project implementation e.g. gender budgeting tools, gender mainstreaming instruments, instruments for gender-responsive impact assessment, gender data and data feminism principles and content, application of intersectional and inclusive perspectives.
Organising round tables for actors from civil society and government using feminist methods (inclusive and barrier-free, co-creative, participatory, agile, with flat hierarchies, tested on practical examples).
Responsible for developing capacity-building measures for the project teams and partners in the areas of gender mainstreaming, gender-transformative approaches and women's economic empowerment.
All tasks have to be carried out in close cooperation with the project partners.
Core Scope of Tasks
Project Support
Assist in preparing project operational plan and support in the implementation of gender responsive strategies in the partner states.
Active involvement in projects, e.g. by developing strategies and engaging with the relevant stakeholders, including the private sector.
Responsibility for the management and implementation of advisory and support services to project partners and identified local institutions.
Steering gender-responsive impact monitoring, reporting and quality and knowledge management in accordance with GIZ and Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development guidelines.
Co-ordination and facilitation support during events like conferences, seminars, etc.
Knowledge management and communication
Support the communications and knowledge management-related work and if required, cooperate with relevant organisations, non-governmental agencies, and individuals in the project/programme environment.
Oversee and undertake production and maintenance of existing and future communication/knowledge products (reports, videos, creatives, website, etc.) manage relationships with external vendors and consultants for the production schedules and work of designers and developers.
Document case studies, success stories and lessons learned in consultation with the GIZ officer responsible.
Re-purpose technical content into layman-friendly language and ensure regular project updates on the websites of GIZ and partners, in media posts (social media, print or others), blogs, press releases, talking points, newsletters etc.
Support development of different project/region specific communication strategies and products (like newsletter) and plan of action in coordination with the project team.
Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) support
Provide technical support towards the management and implementation of the M&E/Results-Based Monitoring system of the project.
Support the monitoring of programme activities towards the achievement of indicators, including data collection for indicators, data analysis, report writing and dissemination of results.
Ensuring partners have reported timeously and data meets GIZ data quality standards.
Support the finalisation of reports, M&E tools and presentations according to GIZ layout standards.
Other duties/additional tasks
Prepare and disseminate meeting minutes and carries out other activities required like follow ups for implementing the project.
Managing databases and maintain filing system MS Teams channels, DMS etc. in line with GIZ’s filing rules (contact lists, list of files, soft copies and backups, reports, communications, operational plans, etc.).
Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management and the team leader.
Required Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Post graduate degree in an area that is related to the projects’ objectives, e.g. Gender Studies, Environmental Science, Governance, Social Science, Political Science or Capacity Development.
Minimum 5 years professional experience in implementing projects in the area of gender, feminist development policy and/or related field.
4 years professional experience in Gender Data and/or Intersectionality analysis.
Any relevant certificate courses would be an added advantage.
Strong understanding of social norms transformation, and gender-transformative approaches
Track record in the successful establishment of partnerships and networks, including with development partners, government institutions, civil society and/or private sector companies.
Proven ability to design and organize processes, particularly in the context of societal exchange and networking.
Proven expertise in the field of gender (mainstreaming, transformative approaches, intersectionality).
Good knowledge of forest management and agroforestry, biodiversity conservation.
Knowledge of digital media, visual communications, and interactive storytelling methods is an advantage.
Excellent communication skills with a broad variety of stakeholders.
High degree of independence and problem-solving orientation as well as enthusiasm for teamwork.
Very good working knowledge of IT technologies (e.g., MS Office).
Fluent in English and Hindi, written and spoken.
Ability to travel domestically and willing to frequently travel to project sites.
Must be willing to work in accordance with the corporate values of GIZ.

Duration of the contract: Until 31st August 2027
