Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Services to Clients

• Visit the community to identify persons with mental health conditions and encourage them to undergo treatment and visit the Ward Health Unit. Involve family in the care of the person.

• Working towards a mental health friendly community - Conduct field visits to engage with the community in an informal and formal way to understand their concerns and needs related to mental health and generating the right knowledge around mental health

• Regularly meeting assigned cases and representatives from community as needed. ·

• Identifying the cases for urgent intervention or human rights violation or abuse with the Programme Manager to take up with the Community Mental Health Committee.

• Collaborate with team to facilitate treatment to the clients and rehabilitation plan.

• Facilitate motivational and supportive interaction with clients along with counsellor.

• Conduct follow-up home visits, follow-up through phone calls.

• · Identify training needs of caregivers, and elevate human rights violation and abuse concerns to Project Coordinator, Advocacy Officer and Assistant Director.

• Facilitating client engagement in vocational training and employment.

Building Care Network & Awareness

• Based on expansion phase –

1. Handholding the health workers (ANMs, ASHA and MAS) in their initial efforts to identify and follow-up of clients in the community, including visits to families

2. Support ASHA and MAS in outreach work and camps in the community.

3. Follow up of old ward health units once new wards start the programme.

• Setting up a Community Mental Health Committee in areas where the Urban Mental Health Programme is running (based on Annual Work Plan of the concerned project)

1. Identification of key persons in the community who will be instrumental in helping set up a community mental health committee

2. Facilitating and conducting meetings in the community for group building between key persons in areas where the organization works

3. Networking with councillor of wards for setting up a community mental health committee in the ward

4. Formulating advocacy agenda and organizing and facilitating CMHC meetings.

• Identify community mental health need and plan awareness and sensitization drives accordingly.

• Plan and conduct programs to counter substance abuse and improve community health and counselling services.

• Actively participate in organizing awareness and sensitization drives in the community in partnership with KMC staff in order to mobilize the community towards seeking mental health care by exploring innovative ideas which have a large reach.

• Handholding the community volunteers in field work in the ward community.

• Provide support in organizing awareness camps, medical camps, and pocket meetings in the community, self-advocate meetings, rehabilitation fair, and sports.

Advocacy & Fundraising

• Advocacy with police officials, Govt. health service providers, religious leaders, local clubs, NGOs & CBOs, KMC ward councillors and other key members in the community.

• Provide support in organizing advocacy meetings, self-advocates meetings.

• Raise required kind donation as project work plan.

Documentation and Reporting

• Prepare and maintain support group meetings, self-advocate group meeting reports, awareness advocacy-networking reports, pocket meeting and other event reports, inter- intra team meeting minutes.

• Maintain a detailed record of other activities conducted in the community to create awareness and sensitization on mental health.

• Document any notable client interactions with staff, volunteers, research fellows and/or other clients. · Maintain and update client registers/files for case reporting.

• Send the weekly updated MIS to the Project Coordinator, Assistant Director and MIS Officer. · Support to prepare donor reports as per report calendar and need.

• Develop and update necessary IEC materials as and when required for the program implementation.

Teamwork, Inter Team Support and Support to the organization as a whole

• Provide support to other project teams as required.

• Participate in event committee meetings and assist in organizational events.

• Attend various meetings as scheduled e.g. staff meetings, monthly meetings etc. · Participate in various trainings and workshops.

• Participate in various outdoor activities of projects.

• To carry out other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
