Contract type: Full time renewable two-year contract, including six months’ probation.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours: 40 hours/week (Mon-Fri)
Location: Ahmedabad, though the job will involve some travel across the country

General description of Sense India and the Post
There is broad scope for this post within Sense International India, more commonly known as Sense India. In line with Sense India's strategic plans and policy guidelines the post-holder will work under the leadership of the Director in leading, planning, implementing and monitoring agreed objectives within our ‘Finance’ division.
1. Purpose of post
The key area will be to ensure that Sense India has adequate systems for financial planning, budgeting, recording of income and expenditure and reporting.
Assist in the effective implementation of finance strategy.
Ensure adherence to the statutory requirements mandated by the government.
The post holder will be responsible for analysing income and expenditure against various budgets and producing monthly/periodic reports to the Senior Management Team to assist in decision-making.
Facilitate Internal audit (Quarterly) as well as Statutory (Annual) audit and implement audit recommendations in coordination with team members.
Support the project partners of Sense India in strengthening their accounting and financial systems
2. Key Tasks
a) Accounting
To verify income and expenditure on a monthly basis in the accounting software
Analyse financial reports from field offices and project partners with support from Accounts team
To process and record all payments and transfers with support from Accounts team
To conduct regular reviews, and financial monitoring of accounting systems and to suggest and help implement improvements that would lead to increased cost-effectiveness
Ensure that Sense India operates within the legal and financial guidelines set out in various legislations.
To verify TDS computations under various applicable sections of the Income Tax Act and compliance thereto
To support in processing salary payments to staff members of Sense India
b) Budgeting, planning and monitoring
To support the Director and Senior Management Team to review, monitor and develop appropriate financial systems
To provide monthly financial forecasts, and maintain income and expenditure dashboards, including cash flow statements.
To closely monitor the spending patterns and alert when a significant deviation occurs or is likely to occur
To visit partners for monitoring of financial systems and records and provide recommendations and suggestions based on observations and review.
To plan systematic investment of funds of the organisation to maximize return while complying with legal norms and meeting cash flow needs
Assist the Director in the annual budget planning exercise in close collaboration with all departments.
Regular monitoring of organizational budget and flag up anticipated risks to the SMT in advance and support in risk management.
c) Reporting
To provide monthly financial reports and forecasts to Director to maintain an overview of spending and income
To provide financial reports to donors in prescribed framework
To coordinate submission of financial information and documentation to potential donors as and when required
To prepare reports for the Board.
d) Legal compliance
To be responsible for coordinating internal as well as statutory audit
To prepare the annual Financial Statements for review by the Director
To assist in submissions to Income Tax authorities, Charity Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Finance to comply with rules and regulations applicable to Charitable trusts.
e) Staff management
The post holder will be responsible for leading and line management of skilled team members in the finance division and may be other posts as the organisation develops.
f) General Maintain confidentiality at all times and ensure respect for, observance of and adherence to Sense India’s confidentiality policy Contribute to the development of the role as the organisation develops Undertake any task within the jobholder’s skills and abilities as may be requested from time to time.
3. Additional responsibilities
To maintain and foster good relations with Auditors and maintain an overview of changes in recommended accounting practice or internal or external audits
To work closely with the staff across Sense India to ensure effective cooperation and collaboration
Any other work as agreed with the line manager
To undertake any other activities reasonably requested by the line manager.
The above profile is an indication of the job that is expected to be performed by the post holder and can change with time and circumstances. The emphasis on all areas of work in Sense India is a team approach. The post holder will be expected to attend meetings and be involved in other activities at irregular hours if required.
4. Person Specification:
Candidates with postgraduate qualifications in finance, MBA, CA with 8-10 years relevant experience at senior level, preferably in NGO/INGO in India.
Should be aware of financial software, especially Tally
Should have sound knowledge and skills to work on Excel and other MS programmes
Willing to travel to project locations
Takes initiative and offers new ideas
Good interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels
Written and spoken communication skills in English and Hindi, knowledge of regional language will be added advantage
Demonstrable problem-solving and negotiation skills
Able to manage time and meet deadlines
The successful candidate must meet Sense International India’s mandatory background checks to comply with the organisational Safeguarding System
