Research Associate
Background
The Institute of Livelihood Research and Training – ILRT (www.ilrtindia.org) is an academic institution and affiliate of the Basix Social Enterprise Group (Basix SEG), a livelihood promotion institution. The mandate of the ILRT is to build a scientific knowledge base on livelihoods and disseminate the same to livelihood practitioners for enhancing their understanding and implementation capabilities, who in turn will promote large number of livelihoods. ILRT focuses on research and analysis, capacity building, action research, piloting innovations, technical support for livelihood promotion and policy advocacy on livelihood promotion and related issues in India. The institution aims to build a scientific knowledge base on livelihoods and disseminate it to practitioners, planners, and policymakers to promote sustainable livelihoods for the poor, including women, tribal communities, and other marginalized groups. ILRT operates through its regional centres with headquarters at Hyderabad.
ILRT is seeking a highly qualified and motivated professional for the position of Research Associate, based at the Dean’s Office in Bhopal. The selected candidate will report directly to the Dean and will be responsible for conducting research, performing data analysis, and contributing to academic projects. Additionally, they will support various initiatives undertaken by ILRT.
This is a full-time position, initially offered with a probation period of one year. Based on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience, they may be considered for the position of Research Officer.
Job description:
The Research Associate will be a key member of ILRT, primarily supporting the core team in research, capacity building, and action research projects. The role requires strong analytical abilities, research skills, and a keen interest in livelihood promotion and development initiatives.
Engage and support in conducting research studies on various topics related to livelihoods, rural development, and social enterprises.
Engage and support in organizing Seminars, Workshops and Webinars etc
Engaging in action research and documenting the learnings.
Engage and support in organizing training programmes.
Prepare research reports, policy briefs, and case studies based on findings.
Contribute to the development of research publications and knowledge products.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, or a related field.
Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in data analysis tools (Excel, SPSS, R, or Python preferred).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. An additional language skill will be an additional advantage.
Ability to synthesize complex information into concise and actionable insights.
Willingness to travel for fieldwork and project implementation.
The Research Associate will work closely with ILRT’s core faculties, contributing to high-impact research and initiatives aimed at strengthening livelihoods and rural development.
Compensation:
We offer a competitive salary which is at par with the development sector. The Cost to Organization (CTC) that we envisage is in the range of Rs. 4 – 6 Lakhs per annum and will depend upon the experience, skills and profile of the candidate.
