Department Overview
The Department of Education at CanKids…KidsCan represents education outside of a standard school setting, for children undergoing cancer treatment. Formal Education aims at activities with children and adults that will help them learn as per the curriculum and also provide for cocurricular activities. Scholarships are provided to children who have been reintegrated into their former schools.
A Non-Formal Education is the wise, respectful and spontaneous process of cultivating learning. It works through conversation, and the exploration and enlargement of experience. Non-Formal education has activities with children and adults. It will help the children to learn basic education, etiquettes and hygiene factors. Through the Annual National Childhood Cancer Excellence Awards (ANCCEA), students who are undergoing treatment and who are survivors, are felicitated for their indomitable will and courage to pursue excellence in academics, creativity, sports and science and technology.
Role Overview
The Project Head (Education) will be responsible for overseeing the execution and management of CanShala model across the state. The role requires strategic leadership to ensure alignment with project objectives, effective resource allocation, budget management, and strong partnerships with stakeholders. The Project Head will supervise Education Officer, Head Teacher, Teachers, Social Worker and other Social Support team, ensuring the standardization of educational processes and children reintegration strategies. Regular visits to different CanShala units, care centres will be conducted to monitor progress and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Implementation & Oversight
· Understanding the status of the cancer affected child during and after treatment – in hospital (OPD and ward), at home, in the “Dharamshala” - adapting the functioning of the CanShala to provide “formal” education and as an “Education Resource Center” to support the learning needs of the “health impaired” child during treatment and after.
• Working with BMC and other local Governments on the requirements of the “Public–private partnership”
• Coordinating with other aspects on the pan India Cankids Education Program
• Collaborating with “education” NGOs and other cancer NGOs – for Resource material, training and manpower.
• Oversee the overall execution of CanShala activities across the state and ensuring alignment with project goals and educational policies.
• Supervise and guide Education Officer and Head Teacher and setting up standardized processes for educational interventions, student assessments, and reintegration strategies.
2. Budget & Resource Management
• Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and compliance.
• Monitor overall budget utilization and ensure funds are used effectively for different services.
3. Monitoring & Evaluation
• Visit different units regularly to monitor operations and performance.
• Track and ensure targets for registered learners are met.
• Conduct monthly reporting and review meetings with CanShala teams.
4. Advocacy & Partnerships
• Manage partnerships with government bodies and NGOs.
• Advocate for CanShala’s expansion at state and national levels.

Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor/Master’s degree in Education, Project Management, Social Work, or a related field.
• Minimum 7-12 years of experience in project leadership, education program management, or large-scale community interventions.
• Experience in government partnerships, advocacy, and education policy implementation.
• Prior experience in managing large budgets and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience in scaling education programs and setting up standardized processes.
Operational Duties
1. Strategic Planning & Execution
• Develop state-wide implementation strategies for CanShala centers.
• Align project goals with education policies and best practices.
• Set and track annual objectives and deliverables for each CanShala.
• Increasing the number of students at the school.
2. Budget & Financial Oversight
• Monitor and approve fund allocations for various educational interventions.
• Ensure optimal utilization of funds for program sustainability.
• Conduct periodic budget analysis and financial reporting.
• Working with the team for fundraising for the CanShala
3. Program Monitoring & Compliance:
• Ensure all CanShala centers comply with MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning) frameworks.
• Develop impact measurement tools to assess program effectiveness.
• Implement corrective actions based on evaluation reports.
4. Stakeholder & Government Liaison:
• Establish and maintain collaborations with state education departments.
• Represent CanShala at government meetings, policy discussions, and education summits.
• Ensure smooth implementation of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in education.
5. Staff Capacity Building & Support:
• Conduct quarterly leadership training for Education Officer & Head Teacher.
• Develop a mentorship and evaluation framework for CanShala staff.
• Set up staff performance evaluation systems to improve educational outcomes.
