CanKids is the only organization in India working at all levels - grassroots, district, state, and national- and partnering and supporting hospitals, health authorities and professionals for the last 20 years to improve the quality/standard of treatment, care, and other holistic support services. Department Overview
The Department of Education at CanKids…KidsCan represents education outside of a standard school setting, for children undergoing cancer treatment. Formal Education aims at activities with children and adults that will help them learn as per the curriculum and also provide for cocurricular activities. Scholarships are provided to children who have been reintegrated into their former schools.
A Non-Formal Education is the wise, respectful and spontaneous process of cultivating learning. It works through conversation, and the exploration and enlargement of experience. Non-Formal education has activities with children and adults. It will help the children to learn basic education, etiquettes and hygiene factors. Through the Annual National Childhood Cancer Excellence Awards (ANCCEA), students who are undergoing treatment and who are survivors, are felicitated for their indomitable will and courage to pursue excellence in academics, creativity, sports and science and technology.
Role Overview:
The Head Teacher will be responsible for supervising classroom activities, curriculum development, and children learning outcomes. This role includes mentoring teachers, tracking children learning progress, and organizing extracurricular activities to ensure a holistic learning experience and following up to facilitating reintegration of children into formal schooling. The Head Teacher will also coordinate with social workers, dietician, psychologists and other social support team for student well-being, develop learning methodologies, and ensure compliance with educational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching & Supervision:
• Supervise classroom activities and ensure quality education delivery.
• Ensuring children safety and well-being from arrival to breakfast and lunch to departure from CanShala.
• Implement PEPs and monitor individual student tracking, follow-ups and learning progress.
• Develop and refine processes for effective teaching methodologies to align with children needs.
• Ensure teachers implement innovative teaching methods for enhanced learning.
· Ensuring the education services like formal, non-formal, therapeutic and scholarships are provided to children in CanShala.
2. Student & Teacher Support:
• Coordinate with social workers and psychologists for student well-being.
• Conduct training sessions and mentoring programs for teachers.
• Conduct monthly progress meetings with teachers and support staff.
3. Extracurricular & Community Engagement:
• Organize celebrations, outings, and excursions for students.
• Plan extracurricular and therapeutic learning activities.
• Ensure compliance with attendance and performance tracking of staff and children.
Key Skills & Competencies:
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Expertise in curriculum development and innovative teaching methods.
• Ability to mentor and train teachers.
• Strong communication and reporting skills.
• Knowledge of education policies and child development methodologies.
• Proficiency in data tracking and performance assessment.
• Ability to coordinate with external stakeholders, parents, and caregivers.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in teaching and school administration.
• Experience in curriculum design and teacher training.
• Prior experience in handling special education programs or working with children in difficult circumstances.
• Knowledge of digital learning platforms and innovative teaching methodologies is preferred.
Operational Duties:
1. Academic Leadership:
• Lead the development of structured lesson plans and teaching methodologies for child centred learning.
• Monitor teacher performance and children engagement levels.
• Implement intervention strategies for academically weaker students.
2. Compliance & Documentation:
• Ensure proper implementation of educational policies at CanShala.
• Maintain detailed student progress reports and teacher performance logs.
• Track and report attendance, follow-ups, assessment results, and learning outcomes.
3. Staff & Student Engagement:
• Conduct workshops and training sessions for teachers and support staff.
• Facilitate parent-teacher meetings and encourage parental involvement.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals for student well-being support.
