Pratham Books (www.prathambooks.org) is a not-for-profit children's book publisher that was set up in 2004 to publish good quality, affordable books in many Indian languages. Our mission is to see ‘a book in every child’s hand’ and we have spread the joy of reading to millions of children in India. As a publisher serving every child in India, Pratham Books has always pushed the boundaries when it comes to exploring innovative ways in which to create access to joyful stories and have been fortunate in finding partners to collaborate with who share this vision. Pratham Books’ efforts to make multilingual storybooks accessible to millions of children have seeded its dissemination portal, E-store (https://store.prathambooks.org/) and a unique crowdfunding platform, Donate-a-Book (https://donateabook.org.in/), designed to bridge the gap between those who want to help children read and those who need books for children

In 2015, Pratham Books' increased its footprint by going digital. As an industry leader, we were one of the first publishers in the country to open license our content. All this content is now available on StoryWeaver, which is an award winning digital platform that hosts stories in languages from India and beyond, so that every child can have an endless stream of stories in her mother tongue to read and enjoy. The stories can be read, translated, versioned or downloaded for free. All stories on the platform are openly licensed.

We are looking for a Product Manager:

We are looking for a creative, talented and experienced Product Manager to help drive the Pratham Books vision and manage the product roadmap across its digital properties. They will be responsible for shaping solutions by working with technical experts, researchers, program experts and designers to effectively address user needs. strategic stakeholders and execution of feature development. The candidate will be expected to work with an internal team and partner ecosystem (NGOs, Government agencies etc.) by contributing enriching use-cases from the field and evangelising the platform objective. As the Product Manager you would –

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Devise the strategy, roadmap, and feature definition for the platform, and work to create team alignment using PRDs

• Drive execution for successful product launches

• Ensure that product is optimised for interoperability, scale and security as per DPG standards

• Be a member of the FOSS forum with an aim to socialise and create visibility for the platform. Regularly have conversations to conceptualise partnerships from the ecosystem.

• Understand how users are interacting with the platform, identify trends and patterns that can guide the product evolution.

• Work with data team to track engagement and impact metrics across key initiatives and product funnels

• Suggest enhancements to the platform which can improve the user experience

• Understand end-user requirements and convert them into valid use cases

• Perform quality assurance on the platform and set benchmarks of user experience and engagement

• Monitor and report on uptake and users’ reactions after each release of platform functionality

• Create support and training documents for internal and external use

• Given the dynamic nature of the technology landscape, one should be ready to pivot strategy based on changing conditions, user behaviour, or organisational goals.

• Research and review evolving tech trends in AI/ML, NLP, FOSS tools and other emerging technologies and best practices in the non-profit education space that can be leveraged for our digital properties.

Skills and Qualifications:

• 5-8 years of experience in managing the entire product lifecycle

• Ability to work with cross-functional teams including but not limited to, Partner organisations (NGOs), Govt. Agencies, Subject/Domain experts, Platform Engineering team, End users etc.

• Knowledge of Project management tools like Jira, Confluence, Trello etc

• Experience in data analysis using Excel, creating dashboards using analytics tools like GA4, Metabase, Bigquery. Writing basic SQL is a plus

• Strong communication skills: Should be able to convey complex technical concepts in a manner that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience of product management in the context of project management / program management would be an added advantage

• Understand the ethical implications of AI / ML and LLM and other new tech in the context of content creation and use under open licences

• Should have an eye on the horizon to anticipate and leverage emerging technology trends to ensure that platform is future ready
