Job Description:

Background: The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) of and for LGBTQ+ individuals that started in April 1994. HST currently implements multiple collaborative studies focus on developing strategy to reach out to MSM using social media, feasibility and acceptability of new HIV prevention technologies, pilot-testing culturally relevant health care providers (HCP)-focused intervention to reduce HIV/STI-related stigma and discrimination towards transfeminine people and randomized control trial to address the unique psychosocial context among Indian MSM.

Project description: We are looking at recruiting a Policy Engagement/ Capacity Building Coordinator (PECC) under Project CARET: Project ‘CARET: Consortium for Advancing LGBTQ+ Health Research, Policy Engagement & Training’. The following are the goals of this study:

• Generation of research evidence on the health status of LGBTQ+ people and training interventions for healthcare provider

• Increased networking and collaborations among researchers, service providers, community organisations, government, and other key stakeholders

• Increased numbers of trained researchers to conduct LGBTQ+ health research.

• Increased numbers of culturally competent, LGBTQ+-affirmative health professionals

• Increased awareness of LGBTQ+ health issues/inequities among policymakers/govt. officials

Main Job Responsibilities:

a. Overall management of all policy engagement and capacity building initiatives planned under the project including guiding the project team based in Mumbai and coordinating the study activities at Mumbai.

b. Assist the research manager and project coordinator in devising project implementation plan.

c. Develop policy engagement material (policy briefs, presentations) with guidance from the research manager and project coordinator.

d. Coordinate and manage project activities by liaising with other project partners via weekly calls (online), in-person meetings, and email communication for project implementation and training.

e. Assist in organizing capacity building programs and research training for the field teams by providing support in development of training materials and co-facilitating sessions.

f. Oversee implementation of study activities such as data collection and fellowship management

g. Support field staff in coordinating and organizing data collection activities.

h. Document study progress and processes as well as provide routine implementation updates to research manager and project coordinator.

i. Ensure ethical compliance via timely submission/extension of the study’s ethics approvals and other contractual formalities.

j. Coordinate with the finance officer for timely payments of vendors/consultants (if any), participant honorariums, local travel and maintaining supply inventory and procuring.

k. Prepare detailed study progress report; program reports; field work updates; and presentations for dissemination.

l. Coordinate the tasks of organising national/regional conferences.

m. Other study tasks as deemed necessary by research manager and project coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills required:

• A minimum qualification MA/MPH or an equivalent in social sciences is expected.

• Experience of 5-7 years in project coordination

• Work experience with LGBTQ+ communities are desirable.

• Knowledge of at least one qualitative analyses software’s (NVIVO, DeDoose, Atlas TI) is desirable.

• Awareness and comfort with operating MS Office products, internet resourcing,

• Knowledge of at least two languages is preferred (English and a local language)

• Must possess strong documentation and writing skills skills.

• Ability to articulate communications clearly and concisely in a polite manner is a must.

• Knowledge of Finance and Sub-grants management is a bonus.

• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and maintain high professional ethical standards.

• Shows respect and acceptance of people from diverse backgrounds. Strong interpersonal communication skills; non-judgemental attitudes; leadership skills to manage a team; and willingness to learn are a must for this profile.

• Ability to work collaboratively and lead the team in a pressurized environment.

• Multi-tasker, proactive learner, and self- motivated attitude are key to this role.

Time Involvement: The project coordinator will devote 100% time to this project and will report to the study investigators and the CEO.
