DATA ANALYST CUM RESEARCHER

The Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing, an Institute of Eminence-Research Centre at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras is a hub for scholarly research in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship, and risk financing. CREST aims to use evidence to guide policy making, uncover new ground leading to publications in top-tier journals and is involved in various ongoing and completed projects related to start-ups and innovation. CREST is currently accepting applications for the position of Data Analyst cum Researcher for its ongoing projects. This role entails organizing and managing both quantitative and qualitative data, conducting quantitative data analysis and qualitative content analysis, analyzing secondary and primary data to derive insights, and writing detailed findings reports. Applicants should possess strong research and writing skills. The Researcher will work under the supervision of a faculty advisor and the Principal Project Scientist.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analysis and Interpretation:

• Clean and organize collected data (secondary and primary data) using MS Excel/statistical software.

• Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and key insights.

• Interpret results, drawing meaningful conclusions based on research objectives.

Report Writing:

• Prepare detailed research reports, including executive summaries, methodology descriptions, data analysis, findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

• Structure reports to be clear, concise, and accessible to a diverse audience, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Utilize appropriate visuals (graphs, tables, charts) to effectively present complex data.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Ability to critically evaluate data, identify patterns, and draw valid conclusions.

• Thorough understanding of various research methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods.

• Proficient in MS Office

• Ability to efficiently organise, clean, and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data. This includes tasks such as creating pivot tables, performing advanced data analysis, generating visualizations, and managing large datasets to extract meaningful insights.

• Ability to communicate complex research findings in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.

• Meticulous attention to data accuracy and consistency throughout the research process.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or M.Phil in a research-oriented field from a reputed institution (e.g., social sciences, healthcare, business, economics)

• More than 10 years of experience in data analysis and report writing

• Should be based out of Chennai

• Strong analytical and research skills, with experience in data collection and analysis.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to work under minimal supervision

• Self-driven with a focus on targets and results

• Proficient in English and Tamil language
