MAMTA HIMC is currently looking for applications from competent and experienced Optometrist as part of medical team for providing services related to eye care to truck drivers in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh.

JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Optometrist will be responsible for providing health care services related to eye care for truckers as part of the medical team. This will include common examination, diagnosis, and primary management of eye problems. Person will also prescribe optical aids to truckers. S/he will be responsible for providing need based counseling services and health education to the truck drivers and associated beneficiaries’ in support of the program related to eye problems. S/he will maintain records of patient registration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Examine the eyes of truck drivers to assess ocular health and determine the nature and extent of vision problems.

• Measure the visual acuity, refractive error and other eye issues.

• Prescribe appropriate corrective eyeglasses.

• Refer the patient to the medical doctor in team or higher facility for ophthalmologist evaluation depending upon the complexity of the eye problem.

• Participate in outreach camps to provide eye services.

• Recommend appropriate patient follow-up and care options.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Optometry from Recognized University

• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience of practice. Experience working in eye department in recognized hospital will be an asset. Prior experience in working in development sector will be preferred.

• Demonstrate empathy and compassion towards patients.

• Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, their families and other health care professionals.

• Ability to manage caseload and work prioritization.

• Ability to accomplish tasks within time limits.

• Candidates with good command over local language in Vijaywada.

• Local candidate will be preferred.
