About the Project:
Project SAHAS, implementing with support from Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI), is a ‘unique and innovative’ project that focuses on five major areas affecting transgenders (Male to Female & Female to male, including nonbinary persons) in India. The focused areas are Holistic Healthcare (including early detection, prevention and referral treatment for communicable as well as non-communicable diseases), Gender Affirmation Care (GAC), Human Rights, gender-based Based Violence and Social Welfare Entitlements. The project’s key objective is to create a significant positive impact in the areas of gender identity, education, equitable access, and the economic status of the transgender population. The project will be implemented in ten sites at three levels (national, state and community levels), ensuring collaboration with the organizations’ working for the welfare of the transgender community.
About Basera:
Basera Samajik Sansthan (BSS) is a community-based organization registered number 914 under the Uttar Pradesh NGO Registry ACT. Founded in 2006, BSS is a non-governmental organization operating its intervention in Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh. Our organization focuses on protecting and expanding the rights of LGBTQ Individuals, most notably advocating for Transgender rights, anti-discrimination and hate crimes legislation, documenting and reporting on gender-based violence, and HIV/AIDS advocacy and treatment support. In line with the philosophy, We strongly believe that the engagement of communities most affected by HIV and other co-morbidities in Program and policy designing, planning implementing, and monitoring is the only answer to community-inclusive programs.

Summary of Responsibilities:
The Community Worker will be responsible for mobilizing the community members for health and social welfare camps and other such initiatives. The person will also provide a basic awareness of HIV/STI/TB prevention and information regarding the social protection schemes available for the community members.
The Community Worker will disseminate first level information about Gender Affirmation Care (GAC). The Community Worker will provide accurate information regarding the data/information collected to the Project Coordinator, ensuring utmost confidentiality of the data collected.
The key responsibilities of the position are as follows:
1. Mobilize people for health camps, social welfare camps, other events, etc.
2. Ensure each registered Transgender person should have access to a transgender card and other welfare schemes.
3. Provide HIV/STI/ TB prevention and safer sex education to transgenders (Male to Female, Female to Male and non-binary ) members through outreach.
4. Provide correct basic information regarding GAC amongst community members and guide them to the counsellor at the TG Welfare Center.
5. Convene one-to-one sessions, group sessions, hotspot level meetings and advocacy meetings.
6. Provide information about Crisis Response Team and TG welfare centers.
7. Reach sub-groups of the transgender community both visible and hidden (Hard to reach TGH)
8. Building/creating second-line leadership at the hotspot/site level.
9. Contribute at the site level for various advocacy activities aiming at the welfare of the transgender community.
10. Provide outreach at popular gathering spots: Bars, clubs, restaurants, parks, and the hijra deras.
11. Share information in the community about social protection, social entitlement, and GAC
12. Create awareness about all aspects of TG health and rights.
13. Development of weekly plan and review the weekly plan in the weekly meetings, Consolidate the data collected at the fields and report back to the M&E and Finance Officer
14. Ensure that the monthly support group meetings and Crisis Response Team meetings are conducted in close coordination with the team members.
15. Undertake other responsibilities not outlined above, which are commensurate with a role of this nature in the charitable sector and are of interest to the organization, which have been discussed between the line manager and the post holder.
Essential requirements:
At least 8th class pass
1. From the community (TG/Hijra) and preferably with experience working with TG/Hijra population or trans-led CBOs
2. Has a good hold in community mobilization and is aware of community dynamics.
3. A good understanding of the community mobilization process.
4. Strong facilitation and convincing skills.
5. Ability to read and write in English and local language.
6. Ability to read and write in English and/or in the regional language where the program is being implemented. Desirable qualities/experience/skills:
7.Good understanding of development issues and the HIV epidemic(s) in India.
8. Knowledge in Prevention, TG Social protection-related issues.
A good understanding of legal and ethical issues around HIV/AIDS/ KPs

BSS has been also associated with Asia Pacific Transgender Network, Integrated Network of Sexual Minority (INFOSEM), All India Sex workers Network (AINWS), and NATTKHA. Some of the long-term projects that we have implemented are Pehchan, Wajood, and Prayas supported by Alliance India (http://www.allianceindia.org/) and CONNECT Project by the Humsafar Trust (https://humsafar.org/). We have also implemented a project supported by Asia Pacific Transgender Network (https://weareaptn.org/) for recent COVID pandemic support to Transgender people in 2020. We are now glad to say that we are receiving ISRG(Indian Strategic Resource Grants) by Women’s Asia.
