Finance &  Audit-NGO

Key Responsibilities:

1. Audit Planning:

Develop and implement audit plans and schedules for NGO programs and projects.

Identify areas of risk and key focus areas for audit.

Review internal controls and financial systems to ensure they meet regulatory and donor requirements.

2. Financial Audit:

Examine financial statements, transaction records, and supporting documentation.

Verify the accuracy and completeness of accounting records, ensuring they align with donor agreements and financial policies.

Identify discrepancies, irregularities, or instances of fraud and report findings.

3. Compliance Checks:

Ensure compliance with donor requirements, local statutory regulations, and organizational policies.

Audit the utilization of funds to confirm alignment with approved budgets and objectives.

4. Internal Control Assessment:

Evaluate the effectiveness of internal financial and operational controls.

Provide recommendations for improving policies and procedures to strengthen financial management systems.

5. Reporting:

Prepare clear and concise audit reports, summarizing findings and recommendations.

Present audit results to senior management and stakeholders, including donors.

6. Capacity Building:

Conduct training sessions or workshops for NGO staff to enhance financial management and compliance awareness.

Provide ongoing support and guidance on best practices in financial operations.

7. Follow-Up:

Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and ensure corrective actions are taken.

Perform follow-up audits to assess the effectiveness of implemented changes.

8. Risk Management:

Identify financial risks and propose mitigation strategies to protect organizational and donor funds.

Collaborate with management to develop and implement robust risk management practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Background:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent) is highly preferred.

Experience:

Proven experience of minimum 2 years in auditing, preferably within the NGO or nonprofit sector.

Familiarity with donor regulations (e.g., USAID, UN, EU, etc.) and international financial reporting standards.

Other Requirements:

Willingness to travel to project locations and field offices as needed.

Knowledge of local tax laws, labor regulations, and statutory requirements relevant to NGOs.
