Major involvement of JRCT is with communities that fall under marginalized categories, with a special focus on women and young girls, students and out of school children.

JOB TITLE: Social Worker/ Social Counsellor

PROJECT DURATION: 3 Years

LOCATION: Districts of Kangra and Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India

JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a qualified Social Worker or Social Counselor to join a community-based organization with a decade long focus on healthcare and well-being, namely for women, youth and other disadvantaged sections of society.

The expert shall contribute to the objective of enhancing individual, group and community resilience across all age groups, genders and other social divides. The expert will work with underserved rural communities in a multiprofessional team,

offering assessments, emotional support, guidance and advice, ensure referrals to specialists, engage in skills and capacity building, community outreach as well as contribute to the documentation of interventions and the monitoring of outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Social Counseling:

Provide individual, group, and family counseling as well as practical support.

Provide guidance on personal, professional and social matters such as personal choices, family dynamics, and the handling of conflicts.

Work with individuals and groups on stress management, coping strategies, and emotional support.

Develop and implement interventions to improve resilience and well-being.

2. Case Management:

Conduct relevant assessments, including psychosocial evaluations and needs assessments.

Create and follow through with specified resilience and well-being plans.

Coordinate with other healthcare workers, government agencies, and NGOs to ensure a holistic approach to community care.

3. Community Outreach:

Organize and lead community resilience programs.

Facilitate resilience workshops and community education on topics such as resilience, self-care, substance abuse prevention, and trauma recovery.

Work with local stakeholders to break the stigma around mental stress.

4. Capacity Building:

Train local healthcare workers, community leaders, and volunteers in resilience screenings and (subjective) well-being assessments as well as basic social intervention techniques.

Develop and help disseminate information and educational materials on resilience and well-being.

5. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain detailed and accurate case records.

Provide regular reports on program activities, outcomes, and challenges.

Track project impact and progress through data collection and analysis.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling, Applied Psychology, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in working directly with individuals, groups and communities, preferably in rural areas or with marginalized communities.

CERTIFICATIONS: Licensed or certified as a social worker, counselor, or mental health practitioner.

SKILLS:

Strong understanding of issues that individuals, families and communities in rural India face, including financial, employment and health struggles as well as exposure to natural disasters.

Experience in trauma-informed counseling and care.

Familiarity with advanced concepts of resilience and well-being.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in a diverse and rural settings.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Proficiency in Hindi; English and a local language is a plus. Working Conditions:

FULL-TIME POSITION with frequent travel to various rural areas. Fieldwork may involve working in challenging and low-resource environments.
