Gaus Sayyad and Mangesh Pol of Maher, an NGO that runs a home for destitute men, women and children at Wadgaonsheri, would attend a peace camp at Seattle in the US from June 19 to December 16. The camp is being organised by Seattle-based Interfaith Community Sanctuary (ICS). Established in 1999, ICS aims to promote world peace and interfaith culture and spirituality.
Sayyad was only 8 years old when a social worker associated with Maher spotted him washing cars. His father was paralysed, while his mother was working as a labourer. He also had two sisters to support. At Maher, Sayyad excelled in dancing. He won Pune University?s Best NSS Student Award (2011-12) and went to New Delhi to participate in the Republic Day Parade and cultural programme in 2012.
