Activists of Gau Raksha Manch, Daman, a non-government organization (NGO), have alleged large-scale cattle-rustling in the Union territory of Daman by thieves belonging to Gujarat and Maharashtra. The thieves had injected two cows with some medicine that made them unconsciousness in Bamanpura area of Moti Daman and Dabhel in Nani Daman on Wednesday. However, the thieves could not carry out the theft and the cows were saved by them, they claimed.
Gau Raksha Manch president Manoj Bagan said they immediately took veterinarians to the spot and got the cows treated. "The modus operandi of the gangs is to make the cows unconscious and then take them away in trucks for slaughter. We have given this information to the local police," he said.
Police officials said no complaint has been registered as yet. "This cattle was stray animals and no owner has come forward to register any complaint. Veterinarians say the cows are now okay. They could be sick due to some illness too," said police inspector Dinesh Vaja of Moti Daman police station.
