NGO, local police conducted raid at a slaughter house in Ahmednagar, 46 calves rescued

MUMBAI: A major raid was recently conducted at an illegal slaughterhouse in Sangamner, Ahmednagar district, where the police and activists seized 46 calves and also booked three butchers involved in this extreme animal cruelty.

On January 6, activist Chetan Sharma from People for Animals (PFA) and the local police, raided the illegal slaughterhouse after getting specific information how animals like cattle and also calves were killed here.

At the crime scene, 50 calves aged between two to three months were already found slaughtered and few were waiting helpless for their turn. It was extremely disturbing to witness this.

A PFA activists informed that a total of 46 calves were rescued from two vehicles which were parked very close to the slaughterhouse. Three culprits were arrested red-handed and the owner of the slaughterhouse, Nawaj Qureshi, managed to escape from the spot. FIR has been registered against all the accused including the owner.

"There was gross violation of Food and Safety Act /rules besides other laws related to animal protection. Slaughter house did not have licence/ permission as well," said the PFA activist.
